Economic forecasting is probably as old as organized economic activity, but modern forecasting got its impetus from the Great Depression of the s. The effort to understand and correct the worldwide economic disaster led to the development of a vastly greater supply of statistics and also of the techniques needed to analyze them. The literature on short-term (i.e., horizons ranging from one day to one week) forecasting models in electricity market contexts is mostly dominated by statistical or econometric approaches, whereas longer-term contexts also involve fundamental modelling of the market behaviour and dynamics [1,2,3].Author: Rodrigo A. de Marcos, Antonio Bello, Javier Reneses.

Parameter models hints that tests for parameter constancy are likely to be the most important. Finally, econometric models do appear to be gaining over extrapolative or jud gmental methods, even for short - term forecasts, though much more slowly than their proponents had Size: KB.

The assumptions underlying the application of econometric models to short-term forecasting are discussed and examined. It is suggested that the distinction between predictor variables estimated from outside information and predicted variables to be estimated by the equations of the model should follow practical rather than theoretical.

Econometric Models: The statistical methods used in forecasting can be broadly sub-divided into two categories, namely, time series models and econometric models. The primary distinguishing characteristics of econometric models is the use of an explicit structural model that attempts to explain the underlying economic relations.

Forecasting inflation is an important and challenging task. In this paper we assume that the core inflation components evolve as a multivariate local level process. This model, which is theoretically attractive for modelling inflation dynamics, has been used only to a limited extent to date owing to computational complications with the conventional multivariate maximum likelihood. The theory was first published in a seminal book titled Time Series Analysis – Forecasting and Control (), Many studies have shown that forecasts from simple ARIMA models have frequently outperformed larger, more complex econometric systems for a File Size: KB.
